Stroke
Many stroke survivors might lose their capability to perform daily tasks, such as maintaining balance, concentrating, retaining information, or even reaching for an object.
Occupational therapy can help stroke survivors in this matter by improving their sensory and motor abilities that the person may have lost due to a stroke that allows him or her to live a happy and normal life.
The therapist does this by making daily tasks such as dressing, bathing, writing, driving and cooking easy and simple for the patient.
As a result, the stroke survivor feels more confident, so, can get back to his or her normal life like before.
Parkinson’s Disease
If a person has Parkinson’s disease, occupational therapy will help him or her live a more normal and active life.
During this therapy, the doctor will test, treat and suggest solution to the patient in areas such as handwriting improvement, arm and hand therapy, home improvement tips, leisure skill development, dressing and grooming tips, wheelchair using techniques and so on.
This will make the patient feel more confident and self-assured, important for living a happy and fulfilling life.
Cancer Patient
Cancer is a deadly disease and it can make a person’s life difficult. Plus, the disease also has a lot of psychological, emotional and physical effects on the patient.
Patients with cancer often face difficulties in lifestyle, fatigue, and self-esteem. Interestingly, an occupational therapy can help cancer patients too in living a happy and healthy life.
Basically, during an OT session, the cancer patient learns to use his or her energy, understand their inner emotions and feelings, improve behaviours and adjust with changing environments.
As a result, the cancer survivor will feel more self-reliant and confident that in return will allow him or her to live a joyous and worry-free life.
Accident
An accident survivor may face various cognitive and physical problems right after the mishap happens. This can happen due many reasons such as spinal cord injuries, brain injuries, amputations, mental trauma and so on.
In such a situation, an occupational therapy (OT) can help the patient at every step when it comes surviving the mental and physical wounds of the accident, that slowly leads the person towards a happy and healthy life.
